Summer in the Roháče
Summer in Zuberec means hiking into the Roháče valley. The nature trail to the Roháče tarns runs 5.4 km beneath the peaks of Ostrý Roháč, Plačlivé and Tri Kopy, four glacial lakes that sit unusually low for mountain tarns. The trail starts near the parking area by the Roháče – Spálená resort, where a parking fee applies during the summer season.
Beyond the tarns, it’s worth visiting the Orava Village Museum (Oravský skanzen) right in Zuberec, an open-air exhibition of the region’s original wooden buildings. If you’d rather cycle, there are routes around the foot of the Roháče too.
Most places to stay in the village have a garden or at least somewhere to sit outside, and some have parking right by the house, useful after a day in the mountains. And since you’re staying directly with the host, you’ll pick up tips you won’t find online.
